Tips for choosing your perfect wedding photographer
So, you have found your soul mate and decided to get hitched. Now comes the months of meticulous planning, dress fittings and food tasting (my favorite bit).
Most of the day will fly past and be just memories of the most special day of your life. But the photos will be there forever. They will be one of the only things you come away with that you can show your friends, family and grandchildren in years to come.
Here are my top tips for picking your perfect wedding photographer
STYLE
The style of the images that you like is very important: do you like moody black and whites, bright clean images or intimate portraits that are rich and earthy? This is a very important aspect for picking the right photographer as the image will represent you as a couple and the style of wedding that you are both creating.
Another important thing to think about is whether you are after a relaxed informal reportage approach or a more contemporary structured approach.
Once you have more of an understanding of what you would like as a couple then start to look for a photographer whose style you like.
START SEARCHING NOW!
Okay, so you have an idea in mind about how you want your photos to look. Now is the time to start the search; most good photographers will be booked a year to 18 months in advance. That doesn’t mean your perfect photographer won’t be available at short notice, especially if it is a weekday or out of season date.
Once you have found ‘The One’ research them, read reviews and contact previous brides and grooms if possible.
ARRANGE A MEETING
While you may think you have found your perfect photographer, they still may not be right for you. Could you imagine anything worse than having to spend your special day with somebody you can’t gel with?
First impressions are super important, it doesn’t take long to find out if you have a connection.
Ask yourselves, could you imagine your guests getting on well with them and will they ultimately make you feel relaxed and add to your day?
WHAT’S INCLUDED?
Discussing and understanding what packages each photographer offers is extremely important.
The most common package is to photograph the whole day from the morning preparations up until and just after the first dance.Find out how much each package is and what is included. You may be surprised; the age old saying of you get what you pay for it isn’t always true.
Be clear with the photographer about your budget. This also goes for the photographer. Make sure they are open and clear about their pricing. Ask questions. Does the price include travel, editing etc?
REFERENCES
So, you have found the perfect photographer, you have met up and they have dazzled you with their sparkling personality and you are ready to sign on the dotted line. But before you do ask to speak with a couple of their previous brides, read a couple of reviews. While this does come under the research part you can never be too careful.
